Working with Code First Girls to transform tech

8th March 2023

This International Women’s Day we wanted to celebrate the great work Code First Girls are doing to transform tech.

According to their 2022 Annual Survey, 82% of their community weren’t taught computer coding skills at school, and a further 75% said a career in technology wasn’t mentioned or encouraged for them to pursue.

To address this, the Code First Girls program is providing the skills, confidence and inspiration for women and non-binary people to become successful developers, data analysts and future tech leaders.

How Code First Girls is helping women and non-binary people get into tech

The community of coders, trainers and coaches at Code First Girls is one of the largest in the UK to help women break into and subsequently excel within the tech industry.

Their purpose is to eliminate the gender diversity gap and transform tech globally, through free education and employment for underrepresented groups.

The courses they offer include MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) sprints and challenges, career pathways, upskilling or upgrading careers – all 100% free.

Whether it’s helping students expand their career prospects with free coding courses, or helping mothers return to work with new skills, the Code First Girls program has something for everyone.

It’s no surprise that they’ve already given out 100,000 opportunities to women to learn how to code for free!

How we’re working together

It’s no secret that a diverse workforce is a competitive advantage in the tech space. One of the many ways Code First Girls are transforming tech is by connecting the diverse talent within their community with companies directly.

They provide the skills, space and inspiration for women and non-binary people to become skilled developers, data scientists and leaders, so by working with companies like Delio they’re able to connect them with roles to bring their skills to life.

We’re working with them as a CFGDegree Company Partner. Through the degree, community members take part in a 16-week training program in either data, software or full-stack development before obtaining ‘real-world’ job roles and experience from company partners following certification.

We’re delighted that we’ve been able to offer a role for one of the degree participants, who will be joining us later on this year in a full-time, hands-on position.

Rhian Whittington-Walters, Delio Senior People and Culture Manager commented:

We’re really excited to be involved with Code First Girls’ CFGdegree program. We wholeheartedly standby their mission of closing the gender diversity gap in tech and are proud to be able to contribute to that by offering a permanent, Junior Software Developer position to one of their current CFGdegree learners.”
